This is a varied course where you will have the opportunity to learn about lots of different aspects of building and construction. You will build a portfolio of evidence at college and in the workplace with project based assessments on industry subjects.

Course Content
  • You will be required to undertake and have an understanding of a number of different core skills, knowledge and behaviours in order to complete this apprenticeship. These include:

    Health and safety compliance
    Working safely at heights
    Carrying out repairs to a building
    Maintaining plumbing and drainage systems
    Maintaining electrical distribution in a building
    Maintaining plant, safety systems and equipment
    Energy, environment and sustainability practices
    Maintaining the outside of a building
    Using specialist tools and equipment to carry out repairs

    If you do not already hold Level 1 Functional Skills in maths and English (GCSE grade 2 or E), you will need to achieve this level and take the test for Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English prior to taking the end-point assessment.You will be required to attend college one day a week.
Entry Requirements
  • GCSE grade 2 or E in maths and English or level 1 functional skills in maths and English.

    Entry is subject to a successful interview and you will undertake an initial assessment in maths and English regardless of previous qualifications. You must be working under a suitable and relevant contract of employment for a minimum of 30 hours a week. If you do not have an employer, we may be able to help you find one.
Next Steps
  • You will have the opportunity to progress on to a higher level apprenticeship standard or to continue working within the industry.
Career Opportunities
  • Completion of this apprenticeship programme will enable progression into roles such as a Technical Specialist e.g. Electrical or Plumbing and Supervisory and Management roles e.g. Facilities Management, across a wide range of sectors.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students. Students will also earn a full-time wage while they are working for their apprenticeship employer.
You will need access to a PC/laptop to develop your e-portfolio.You may be required to purchase PPE and/or tools to use at work.

Materials Required

Suitable work clothes and steel toe-capped safety boots - all protective equipment will be inspected by the course instructor. Waterproofs/change of clothes in case of inclement weather, Gloves. Writing Materials - notebook and pen.
