Course Information

Would you like a career working within the leisure industry but don’t want to be in the classroom full-time? This course will give you an opportunity to learn, develop and practise the skills you need to further your career in this industry.

You will receive training and mentoring in the workplace which will be guided and supported by your college Trainer/Assessor.

As a Leisure Duty Manager you will provide visible leadership to a diverse range of staff such as lifeguards, receptionists, sports coaches, fitness teams and crèche workers. You will be responsible for managing staff performance and on-going development to ensure staff are motivated, efficient and operate at a high standard.

Course Content
  • You will be required to undertake and have an understanding of a number of different core skills, knowledge and behaviours in order to complete this apprenticeship. These include:

    Customer service skills
    How to recruit, schedule and manage staff
    Looking after equipment
    Administration and project management techniques
    Arranging activity timetables

    As part of the apprenticeship you will need to achieve the following qualification: First Aid at Work and Pool Plant OperatorIf you do not already hold level 2 functional skills in maths and English (GCSE grade 4 or C), you will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End Point Assessment.

    On successful completion of this apprenticeship you will be eligible to become a Member of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).
Entry Requirements
  • GCSE Grade 4 or C in maths and English or level 2 functional skills in maths and English.

    Entry is subject to a successful interview and you will undertake an initial assessment in maths and English regardless of previous qualifications. You must be working under a suitable and relevant contract of employment for a minimum of 30 hours a week. If you do not have an employer, we may be able to help you find one.

    You should have acquired relevant, active experience in the leisure sector prior to joining this course.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students. Students will also earn a full-time wage while they are working for their apprenticeship employer.
You will need access to a PC/laptop to develop your e-portfolio.You may be required to purchase PPE and/or tools to use at work.
