Course Information

This is a Level 1 introduction to all construction trades and you will be able to demonstrate to employers that you have what it takes to get started in the construction industry. You will gain all the instruction, experience and confidence you need to develop your practical skills and progress within the construction industry.

You carry out a series of practical tasks in all disiplines and will build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge under the guidance of a specialist team of industry experienced tutors.

    Construction careeer,progression routes and oportunities
    Hand tool maintenance
    Plumbing installation and maintenance
    Introducing rainwater goods
    Renewing and refitting radiators
    Carpentry and joinery skills
    Brickwork skills
    Blockwork skills
    Setting out and laying foundastions and gravel paths
    Basic electrical work
    Relevant work experience
    English and maths
Entry Requirements
  • No formal entry requirements however English and maths skills will be assessed at interview for suitability. A keen interest in a career in construction, willingness to learn new skills and undertake practical tasks as well as the ability to work independently and within a team.

    Basic word processing skills for the production of portfolio evidence is required. You will be required to undertake work experience. Tetanus protection is recommended.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.
£50 annual contribution towards materials

Materials Required

Basic stationery - pens, pencils, ruler and eraser, A4 lever arch files, calculator. Protective overalls, work gloves and steel toe-capped boots - all protective equipment will be inspected by the course instructor. Practical clothing suitable for the weather conditions necessary at all times. College branded Polo shirts and sweatshirts and cargo trousers are available for purchase at College.
