Course Information

If you like working outside and your strengths are more practical-based, an Agricultural Apprenticeship could be for you. Each workplace is different so you may be working with different breeds of cattle, sheep or pigs, or carrying out a variety of tractor tasks depending on your job.

Your college day is split between theory and practical and you will learn about how and why farming works in certain ways. This is real work where you will learn teamwork in the food production industry of this country.Your progress will be regularly monitored and practical skills will be assessed in the workplace. Your knowledge is tested and you will be expected to update your electronic portfolio.

Course Content
  • Monitoring and maintaining health and safety
    Maintain the healthy growth of crops
    Establish and maintain conditions appropriate to the welfare of animals
    Prepare and operate a tractor with attachments
    Maintain site bio security and personal hygiene
    Deliver basic treatments to livestock
    Monitor and maintain the supply of feed and water to livestock

    Prepare and cultivate sites ready for plantingOpportunity to take tractor handling and related operations certificate.

    English and maths skills will be developed based on your diagnostic assessment and the requirement of the apprenticeship.
Entry Requirements
  • English and maths GCSE grade D/E or 3/2 OR Level 1 English and maths Functional Skills (this must be achieved by the end of the Apprenticeship). You should be keen to learn new skills and recent practical farm experience is essential. You will be required to find suitable, relevant employment. Mature students will be considered based on previous experience.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students. Students will also earn a full-time wage while they are working for their apprenticeship employer.

Materials Required

Pens, Paper, Folder to keep informatin, ACF uniform (polo shirt, sweatshirt), Yellow hi-vis vest, Clean overalls, Steel toe capped boots.
