If you are interested in entering Higher Education or changing your career this one year qualification will give you the skills, knowledge and confidence to do so. This course enables those returning to education from a range of backgrounds not only provides you the practical skills and knowledge to work with a range of animals but builds confidence in the classroom setting, with the benefits of the beautiful setting in the Dorset countryside.

The course is taught with a range of lectures, demonstrations, projects and practical sessions with a variety of companion animals, small mammals, reptiles, livestock and birds. This course also requires at least 150 hrs of work experience with an external employer that gives a fantastic opportunity to gain real experience working in your chosen industry.

  • Topics covered include:

    Animal husbandry including feeding and maintaining accommodation
    Animal health, welfare and behaviour,
    Animal nutrition and breeding
    Animal sciences
    Business management.
Entry Requirements
  • This course is open to 19+ learners only.
    4 GCSEs Grade C/3 or above, including English, math and science. Recent experience of working with animals.Genuine interest in learning.Motivation to secure a relevant work placement. Passion to return to learning and work hard to develop key skills is essential.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.
College uniform including steel toe capped boots.Trips.Exam resits.

Materials Required

Basic stationery - pens, pencils, paper, ruler, ring binders to ensure secure storage of notes, and eraser. Access to IT equipment both at College and at home.
