Course Information

This qualification is perfect for you if you would like to pursue a career working with animals, developing your practical skills as well as building essential knowledge to enable you to progress into higher education or employment. We have a wide range of animals including small mammals, companion animals, exotic species and livestock whilst set in the beautiful Dorset countryside.

This course requires an industry placement with a minimum 315 hrs in the first year of study and 150 hrs of work experience in the second year of study, enabling beneficial experience to go onto your Curriculum Vitae or personal statement.

Course Content
  • Topics include:

    Animal husbandry including feeding and accommodation maintainence
    Wildlife, ecology, conservation and rehabilitation
    Animal behaviour, health and welfare
    Animal sciences and nutrition
    Pet store, kennel and cattery design and management
    Estate skills
    Avian and exotic husbandry
Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs Grade 4/C or above to include English and math.
    Science GCSE minimum of a triple grade 5 or double grade 5/6 in Biology.
    Experience of working with animals.
    Enthusiasm to work with a wide range of species.

  • Employment or Higher Education. Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.
College uniform including steel toe capped boots.Exam resits.Trips.

Materials Required

Basic stationery - pens, pencils, A4 lever arch files, ruler and eraser. Access to IT equipment both at home and at College.
