Course Information

This apprenticeship covers the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of individuals who want to look after the routine day to day husbandry and care of domestic and/or wild animals under guidance, in a variety of different settings. It covers relevant legislation, nutrition and animal behaviour. This apprenticeship follows a ‘core and options’ approach, allowing the flexibility to learn core subjects and then specialise.

The apprenticeship consists of 12 months to complete practical work with an additional three months to complete the End Point Assessment.

  • We offer the following options as part of this apprenticeship:
    Operational and reception duties
    Movement and transport
    Rehoming and animal interaction

    You will be required to select one of these routes within the apprenticeship.
Entry Requirements
  • GCSE grade 2 or E in maths and English or level 1 functional skills in maths and English.
    Entry is subject to a successful interview and you will undertake an initial assessment in maths and English regardless of previous qualifications.
    You must be working under a suitable and relevant contract of employment for a minimum of 30 hours a week.

  • You will have the opportunity to progress on to a higher level apprenticeship standard or to continue working within the industry.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students. Students will also earn a full-time wage while they are working for their apprenticeship employer.

Materials Required

You will need access to a PC/laptop to develop your e-portfolio.
You may be required to purchase PPE and/or tools to use at work.
