Course Information

For professionals and skilled domestic gardeners, this course offers hands-on training in the beautiful and spacious gardens of Kingston Maurward College. Learn from a team of expert tutors and gain a highly respected qualification.
This course forms part of the suite of Level 2 RHS qualifications This weekly morning option can be combined with the Royal Horticultural Society theory course in the afternoon on the same day each week.

Please note: Current RHS Certificate Programmes are due to be replaced by new specifications. Transitional arrangements will be in place.However, anyone wishing to participate at KMC in the three certificates required for the current Level 2 Diploma, is advised to complete their study during academic year 2021-2022

Course Content
  • Sowing seeds and vegetative propagation techniques
    Ground preparation for seeding and planting
    Practical seeds and plants in soil
    Care and pruning of plants
    Identification of plants
    Identification of weeds, pests, diseases and disorders
    Sustainable garden practice
Entry Requirements
  • Although there are no formal entry requirements, students need to be literate and numerate.You will be required to take field notes during practicals and to complete short written tests including plant identification. If you have any concerns please contact us to discuss.
    Minimum age is 16. Commitment to complete the entire course and all assessments is required.Tetanus protection is recommended.

Basic stationery - pens, pencils, notepad, lever arch file, dividers, etc.
Protective overalls, work gloves and steel-toe capped boots - all protective equipment will be inspected by the course instructor.
