Course Information

This apprenticeship is designed for individuals who are committed to the safety and welfare of the horses in their care.
The Equine Groom plays an integral part in the life of the horse, and you will be providing essential day-to-day care including feeding, grooming, cleaning equipment, handling, preparing, exercising the horses and carrying out routine yard duties.

Course Content
  • This apprenticeship follows a ‘core and options’ approach, allowing the flexibility to learn core subjects and then specialise.
    We offer the following pathways to choose from; breeding, driving, racing, riding or non-riding.
    The apprenticeship consists of 12 months to complete practical work with an additional three months to complete the End Point Assessment.
Entry Requirements
  • GCSE grade 2 or E in maths and English or level 1 functional skills in maths and English. Employers may stipulate additional eligibility requirements.
    Entry is subject to a successful interview and you will undertake an initial assessment in maths and English regardless of previous qualifications.
    You must be working under a suitable and relevant contract of employment for a minimum of 30 hours a week.

  • You will have the opportunity to progress on to a higher level apprenticeship standard or to continue working within the industry.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students. Students will also earn a full-time wage while they are working for their apprenticeship employer.

Materials Required

You will need access to a PC/laptop to develop your e-portfolio.
You may be required to purchase PPE and/or tools to use at work.
