Course Information

Dorset offers its residents and guests a unique natural and cultural environment. Half the region is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, home to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site and boasting miles of award-winning beaches. There is no surprise the county is a popular destination for an average of 2.9 million trips each year, 11 million overnight stays, and supporting £557 million in tourism-related spend (Visit Britain, 2017-19). However, there is a strategic need to develop this industry further, increase local job opportunities and also maximise the cultural and heritage offer across the seasons, not just the summer months.

As part of the development of the Kingston Maurward Heritage and Land Management offer, we will be offering a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Tourism from September 2022, with a focus on heritage and sustainable tourism in the rural areas of the county, as well as supporting the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch area. Industry placements will include major partners such as the National Trust, and also a strong focus on environmental aims. There will also be work experience within the College's own country estate which is a major Dorset tourist attraction, visitor centre and wedding venue.
