Course Information

This is an exciting two year programme that will develop learners' skills to manage outdoor adventure facilities and enterprises to a high level of expertise. It will offer a great opportunity for students to increase their practical and management skills for entry into the industry. It will cover key aspects of the breadth of the industry, health and safety and outdoor education.

    Physical activity, health and lifestyle
    Outdoor Learning
    Risk and Safety Management
    The Sport Landscape
    as well as modules in Leadership, Operations Management, Coaching and Outdoor activities
    The second year will develop skills in:
    Entrepreneurship
    Activity programming
    Facilities management
    as well as modules in Adventure Tourism, advanced coaching and exercise physiology.
Entry Requirements
  • Entrants will need Level 3 qualifications. This could include
    Level 3 Extended Diploma in Outdoor Adventure or Sport (1080) - City and Guilds or BTEC - grade PPP or above, or MP for the 720 credit Extended Diploma.
    A Levels to a combination of 48 UCAS points - key subjects Biology, Physical Education, Sport Science

    Applicants should have GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4 or above.

    Mature students may want to discuss qualifications and experience before applying, but are not exempt from the course if they do not have specific entry qualifications.

    international students can apply but should have achieved IELTS at 5.5 or above.

Career Opportunities
  • This course allows progression into BSc (Hons) Top Up programmes at universities and colleges in sports and leisure management, or sport science or coaching.

    Employment will include entry into management roles within the industry such as outdoor centre coordinator or manager and preparing students for entrepreneurship in the industry.

Students on this course are normally eligible for a student loan depending on their circumstances.
There may be additional cost for ensuring students have adequate PPE, costs of transport to the college and offsite trips may require additional costs such as entrance fees. Study Tours will have additional costs depending on the tour offered.

Materials Required

Learners will have practical sessions and should ensure they have correct PPE. This includes suitable clothing, water proofs and other specialist equipment. Learners will also find it useful to have their own devices (laptops, tablets) to bring to college for classwork and to access learning materials.
