Course Information

CS203 (formerly CS31), this wholly practical based 3-day course deals with the Felling of Small Trees (380mm (15"") in diameter or less at their base) and their subsequent breakdown. Subjects include Health & Safety regulations, use of felling aids, de-limbing, cross-cutting. Assessment is carried out on a separate day by arrangement. Course fees include:- equipment, training assessment, access to suitable sites for training and assessment.

  • NPTC L2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm (QCF)
Course Content

  • The course covers; risk assessment, emergency planning, legislation,
    industry best practice, environmental considerations,
    recognition of disease and decay, modification of felling
    methods, setting up supports, felling techniques and cuts, prestart checks, site preparation, dealing with hung up trees, aid
    tools, branch removal, dealing with brash, cross-cutting timber
    to length, stacking timber and waste disposal.
Entry Requirements
  • CS201/202 - Chainsaw Maintenance (formerly CS30) - or equivalent
    Students must be aged 16 or over on 1st September of the year in which the course starts
    Tetanus protection is recommended.

Materials Required

Writing materials - notebook and pen.
Packed lunch and drink, especially if we are working away from college all day.
own Chainsaw and own chainsaw Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to current industry standards is required for this course.
Work equipment, PPE, etc. may be available from the college, this will need to be by prior arrangement with the College, candidates’ own is preferred, subject to checks by the instructor.
National Insurance (NI) number and photographic ID.
Waterproofs/change of clothes in case of inclement weather.
