Course Information

This is a Level 1 Construction study programme and you will be able to demonstrate to employers that you have what it takes to get started in the construction industry. You will gain all the instruction, experience and confidence you need to develop your practical skills and progress within the construction industry.

You carry out a series of practical tasks in many of the industry areas and you will be able to build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge and skills under the guidance of a specialist team of industry experienced lecturers.

Learners will have the opportunity to take an optional assessment to gain their CSCS Card and one day Health and Safety RQF Level 1 alongside their Construction course. This assessment, for those who wish to take it, is funded by the learner but training is covered at no additional cost during the study programme. This is a great opportunity to support the students with their progression into their future career in the construction industry as this is an essential and compulsory requirement for building sites.

Entry Requirements
  • You will need 4 GCSEs at grade 1 or 2, which will include English and mathematics and a satisfactory educational reference will need to be received.

    A keen interest in a career in construction, willingness to learn new skills and undertake practical tasks as well as the ability to work independently and within a team.

    Basic word processing skills for the production of portfolio evidence is required. You will be required to undertake work experience. Tetanus protection is recommended.

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.
£50 annual contribution towards materials

Materials Required

Basic stationery - pens, pencils, ruler and eraser, A4 lever arch files, calculator. Protective overalls, work gloves and steel toe-capped boots - all protective equipment will be inspected by the course instructor. Practical clothing suitable for the weather conditions necessary at all times. College branded Polo shirts and sweatshirts and cargo trousers are available for purchase at College.
