Course Information

The Level 2 Military Preparation Course (MPC) is designed to give you a clear insight into military life and the necessary skills to pass all the Tri Service selection processes. The course achieves this through a variety of activities such as team building, military skills, fitness training and outdoor adventure pursuits. This course will get you fit, help you work better in a team and give you the necessary skills to go through the first stages of the armed forces recruitment and training with maximum confidence and competence.

During the course you will get hands-on experience at a variety of military camps and training venues and by participating in three multiple day combat exercises with the rifle regiment. This course will help you develop personally and socially and teach you skills transferable to other courses and careers.

Course Content
  • Units include:
    Investigate employment in the uniformed services
    Physical fitness for the uniformed services
    Develop team working and problem solving skills
    Health and safety in the uniformed services
    Follow uniformed services routine
    Carry out map reading and navigation
    Undertake adventurous activities

    In addition the course will include:Outdoor adventure, navigation, kayaking, climbing, personal and team challenges, Expeditions, Fitness training, Functional Skills, First aid, Weapons handling, Camps/base visits.All students will have the opportunity to join the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme (DofE) and can participate in Football and Rugby at various levels with the chance of joining the British Colleges Leagues college team.
Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs at minimum grades 3/D, including English and maths or equivalent. You will need a high level of enthusiasm for a career in the Armed Forces, enjoy outdoor adventure pursuits.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.
Unit T-shirt and Unit jumper, boots and belt.

Materials Required

Approach shoes. Boots. Cross trainers. General fitness kit. Sleeping bag - the sleeping bag must be suitable for the climate, environment and overnight temperature.Tracksuit.
