Course Information

This course is designed to help you to develop the skills that you will need to progress onto a Level 1 land-based course the following year. Over the year, you will become confident with working independently to research information and summarise and present your findings in a variety of formats. This will allow you to develop your spoken and written communication skills, improve your IT skills and help you to build confidence in your ability to meet Level 1 assessment requirements.

Another element of this course is skills for independence and work. This will involve working on a range of essential life skills and building employability skills. Additionally, you will be able to develop a range of practical land-based skills, including horticultural skills, tractor driving and care of livestock. These practical activities will allow you to build your team-working skills and will equip you with the basic practical skills required on a range of Level 1 courses.

The underpinning theory of land-based studies will also be covered, including basic animal biology and nutrition, plant biology and ecology. In addition, your study programme will include English and Maths lessons and enrichment sessions, where you will be able to take part in a variety of activities.

You will be supported throughout your time on the course to meet your Education, Health and Care Plan targets and outcomes.

Entry Requirements
  • Interest in the course and progression to mainstream education. Functional Skills (English and Maths) must be Entry Level 3 or above.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.
Contribution towards trips.

Materials Required

Stationery – pens, pencils, ruler, scissors, glue etc. PPE – Steel toe capped boots, overalls, gardening gloves, waterproof clothes, coat.
