Are you looking for a career where you can help protect and enhance our wildlife and countryside? This is an ideal introductory course which will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge that will help you gain employment within the wildlife and conservation industries. The course will give you experience in professional aspects of the industry. You will acquire industry experience one day per week work experience within a local organisation.

    Machinery & Estate maintenance (including operating ATVs, tractors & brushcutters)
    Conservation and improvement to British habitats
    Species identification and surveying
    Environmental conservation of flora and fauna
    Land based machinery and tools
    Health and safety & Working in the land and wildlife industry countryside use, interpretation and recreation

Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above to include English and maths. Interest and enthusiasm in the countryside, wildlife and the environment plus the ability to cope with written work.
Next Steps
  • Apprenticeship in Environmental Conservation, Level 2 Wildlife Ecology and Conservation (merit grade required)

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.

Materials Required

Basic Stationery; Calculator, Pens, paper and lever arch files. Suitable Outdoor Clothing - The clothing must be suitable for environment, weather and time of year, Protective Overalls, Steel Toe Capped Work Boots, Steel Toe Capped Wellington Boots, Hi-vis yellow vest. Department uniform Uniform (polo shirt and sweat shirt). Tetanus protection is recommended. All protective equipment will be inspected by the Course Manager
