Course Information

The Agriculture, Land Management and Production T Level comprises two main parts: the Common Core (where learners will cover key aspects of business, sustainability, ethical principles, health and safety and safe working practices) and the Occupational Specialism – in land based engineering.
This exciting 2-year qualification combines theory and practical lessons in a college setting – working within our dual-purpose onsite farm and extensive workshop areas – alongside an extended industry placement with an external employer, which will span a minimum of 315 hours across the qualification.

Course Content
  • Topics covered may include:
    Sustainability, legislation, principles of biosecurity, right and responsibilities, ethical principles, supply chain management and employability skills.
    Learners will also develop their knowledge and understanding of, and skills in:
    - Knowledge and application of the operating principles of different types of land-based machinery and equipment
    - Scheduled, preventative and predictive maintenance and preparation for out-of-season storage
    - Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials and their application in land-based engineering
    - Skills in conducting maintenance of land-based machinery and equipment
    - Skills in the repair of land-based machinery and equipment
    - Skills in carrying out diagnostic activities on land-based machinery and equipment
Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, which include English and maths OR a relevant Level 2 qualification achieved at Merit and both english and maths at grade 4 or above.
    Some farming/engineering experience before commencing the course is essential, as is the ability to cope with written work.
    An employer-led industry placement of at least 315 hours will need to be completed across the qualification.

Next Steps
  • Learners may consider progressing onto the Higher National Diploma in Agriculture at Kingston Maurward College; a BSc Applied Agricultural Science at a different university provider or employment.
Career Opportunities
  • Agriculture machinery technician, land-based service engineer or further training to become a land-based mechanic.
    Employment prospects for qualified and experienced young people with the right attitude are excellent as the industry is experiencing a skills shortage and many learners gain employment through or at their work experience placements.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.
Assessment fees for some additional qualifications - usually between £70 and £150 per qualification for certificates of competence such as Tractor Driving. For some additional qualifications a contribution towards the cost of training may also be required.
Uniform - Kingston Maurward polo shirt. Other optional uniform includes a KMC gilet, jumper and waterproof coat.
A range of trips are planned throughout the year.

Materials Required

Basic stationery: calculator, pens, paper and lever arch files.
All our learners are expected to wear a KMC-branded polo shirt and clothing suitable for the environment, weather and time of year for all practical/outdoor/workshop tasks.
Protective navy blue overalls, steel toe-capped work boots and a hi-viz yellow tabard are mandatory for all practical activities across the college estate.
Access to IT equipment at home and at college.
Tetanus vaccination is recommended.
