Course Information

Combining a mixture of theory and practical, this is a very hands-on qualification ideally suited to someone who is new to the subject and wishes to investigate a career in horticulture or related subjects and perhaps study further. No previous knowledge is required, but a willingness to learn new skills and develop knowledge of the world of plants and horticulture is needed.

You will be taught with like-minded learners with the same interest in the outdoors, gardening and landscaping where you will develop your personal and social skills whilst also improving your English and maths skills. Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs grade 1/ 2 or above or equivalent ( e.g functional skills), including English and maths. Interest and enthusiasm in working in the land-based industries is essential. Other experience within the land-based industries will also be considered.

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.

Materials Required

Basic stationery: calculator, pens, paper and lever arch files. Suitable outdoor clothing - the clothing must be suitable for environment, weather and time of year. Protective overalls. Steel toe capped work boots. Hi-vis yellow vest. Work gloves Department uniform: polo shirt and sweatshirt. Tetanus protection is recommended. All protective equipment will be inspected by the Course Manager
