Course Information

This two year course is equivalent to 2 A Levels and is an ideal qualification for school leavers and mature students to learn horticulture at a higher level. It enables those who already have some experience to develop expertise in a wide range of subjects relevant to the industry. Using our fantastic campus facilities, including modern glasshouses, you will gain a broad understanding in a range of horticultural subjects including applied plant science, turf management and garden design.

The course also provides opportunities to meet with industry experts and potential employers and to showcase your skills to local clients by becoming involved in College-supported community and private projects. The qualification is supported by: The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA), The Greenkeepers Training Committee (GTC) and British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI).

Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs at grade 4/5 or above, including English, maths and a science OR a relevant Level 2 at Distinction level or an Apprenticeship in horticulture with good levels of maths and English. There may be the opportunity to study English and maths if you have yet to achieve a grade 4. Mature students lacking formal qualifications will also be considered. Enthusiasm, relevant practical experience, a keen and active interest in commercial gardening and landscaping with the ability to cope with practical and written assessment and externally set exams.

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.

Materials Required

Basic stationery: calculator, pens, paper and lever arch files. Suitable outdoor clothing - the clothing must be suitable for environment, weather and time of year. Protective overalls. Steel toe capped work boots. Steel toe capped wellington boots. Hi-vis yellow vest, work gloves.Department uniform: polo shirt and sweatshirt. Tetanus protection is recommended. All protective equipment will be inspected by the Course Manager
