Course Information

This programme will provide graduates with a diverse range of skills to effectively operate and lead within businesses and enterprises. It aims to develop core skills in the following areas
-Professional Skills for Business
-Strategy and Planning
-Skills for Leadership

Business skills and acumen are key to role in all organisation across a wide range of sectors. As a programme aimed at delivery within the Dorset economy it will support business skills for entry into key local sectors such as Tourism, Health and allied care services, land-based and other rural enterprises.

At Level 4 the programme will develop core business skills alongside other key areas such organisational management and financial acumen.? Other modules develop contemporary and digital skills and understanding of human resources. At Level 5, the programme will develop skills in strategic business planning and continuity, skills for leadership and customer dynamics. Wider skills in understanding organisational and workforce behaviour are developed through application of psychology for business improvement. .

Entry Requirements
  • A minimum of 48 new UCAS tariff points. Normally one A Level in any relevant subjects, or a MPP at Level 3 BTEC or Advanced Technical Extended Diploma (1080) in vocational subjects OR MM in Level 3 BTEC/ Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in suitable subjects (720).
    Although studying business at Level 3 is useful, the programme is aimed to foster business skills in a range of sectors, where applicants are looking to develop their skills for business.

    4 GCSEs in Maths, English (grade 4/5 or above) are required. Mature entry is actively encouraged and relevant work experience will be considered in place of formal qualifications, but Access to HE courses in Science or Land based studies are highly recommended.

    This programme accepts applications from international students. International students will need to ensure they can comply with UK visa requirements before enrolment, and for the length of the programme. The College has a limited accommodation offer available, but can provide additional support on request to find other local accommodation. Applicants will need to ensure they meet entry requirements for qualifications, experience and English language through IELTS.
Next Steps
  • The key route following the foundation degree are the BA (Hons) Business Management Top Up programmes. This is a one year programme at Kingston Maurward Campus. The course also offers entry to Top Up programme in the School of Business at University of Plymouth. Other colleges and universities also offer similar final year courses.
Career Opportunities
  • The programme prepares graduates for entry into employment in any relevant business support role in a wide range of possible sectors. The programme is also aimed to allow progression into BA (Hons) programmes nationally.
