Do you want to work in the exciting world of outdoor adventure? Do you enjoy a practical approach to learning? This Level 3 course gives you the underpinning knowledge & skills to develop a career in sport and outdoor adventure through in depth theory and practical development.

You will become more proficient in your practical ability in activities like kayaking, climbing and caving and will learn the skills that will enable you to flourish in the outdoor sports industry. It is also the ideal course for progress to Higher Education. Students will need to maintain appropriate level of fitness throughout the course, work on teamwork and communication skills and participate in a wide range of practical activities.

    BCU/UKCC Up to 3 Star Award
    BCU/UKCC Foundation Safety & Rescue (FSRT)
    BCU/UKCC Paddlesport Instructor Training & Assessment
    First Aid qualification
    Mountain Biking Instructor Training & Assessment (MIAS)
    Practical content includes: Climbing, mountain biking, caving, navigation, paddlesport (kayaking & canoeing), ropes course, archery, orienteering (including competitions), personal training (gym) and team sports. You will take part in several expeditions culminating in a week long expedition in the UK or abroad.
    You will also have the opportunity to gain other coaching and leadership qualifications, National Governing Body (NGB) Awards, GCSEs and Functional Skills.
Entry Requirements
  • 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C / 4+, including English and maths OR Level 2 Diploma at Merit level plus English and maths grades A*-C / 4+. You will need a proven enthusiasm and experience in outdoor adventure.

Course Fees

There are no course fees for eligible students aged 16-18. Students aged 19-25 may also be eligible for government funding or a student loan depending on their circumstances.
There will be additional cost for expeditions and some off site visits

Materials Required

A kit list will be provided before the start of the course and uniform will be available to purchase at enrolment
Approach shoes, sports kit and suitable outdoor clothing - the clothing must be suitable for the environment and time of year, advice on all of these will be given on induction.
Basic stationery - pens, pencils, ruler, eraser and notebook.
